Things That’ll Have Kids Today Saying ‘Um, What’

As new generations start to grow, the things of the past will begin to become obsolete. The millennials already saw what happened to Blockbuster, but that’s beginning to happen with many other things.

There are plenty of nostalgic items that kids today will never understand; from classroom objects to music accessories, there’s a lot to see. Take a look for yourself.

You’ve never faced struggle if you’ve never had to do this from a flip phone. Teenage romance during the era of cellphones without keyboards was a real mess. Imagine if this person texted back.

Buffering is a child’s game. Do you know what it’s like to have your cassette tape do this on you in the middle of your favorite song? It’s gone, and there’s no getting it back.

Old School McDonald’s

Plenty of fast food places offer kids’ toys, but they don’t compare to the originals from McDonald’s. There’s something about them that hits different. The hotcakes transformed into a robot.

A pager was the best way to communicate with back in the day. They were annoying, but they got the job done. Thank goodness for cellphones, or I don’t know where we’d be.

Technology continues to advance, and pictures like this remind me of how thankful we should be. Who wants to play a game on their phone without touch? Count me out of that.

If you ever owned a Blackberry, then this image is highly nostalgic. The Blackberry phones broke ground, and I’m pretty sure previous owners will never forget them. Now, we have iPhones.

The Freddy Krueger Fingers

The Freddy Krueger fingers were a joy to play with while in class. These things had some reach, so you could scratch your neighbor from a distance if you wanted.

Many kids would indeed prefer some new electronics over some measly train, but there wasn’t much better. Perhaps a set of toy dinosaurs, but that’s about it. These trains weren’t that bad.

The Only Way To Listen To Music

If you loved music and wanted to listen to it on the go, you needed a Walkman. These things were lifesavers when you couldn’t get that Backstreet Boys song out of your head.

Ripping And Folding It Into Caterpillars

Back in the day, there was a lot of manual labor involved with these dot matrix printer papers. You had to rip the edges before folding them into caterpillars, which isn’t that fun.

I’m almost certain no kid today would ever recognize this. It has similar buttons on it, but this is no regular calculator. It was one that let you program it.

Old Mouses Were The Worst

We’re blessed to have mice with lasers in them, but it wasn’t like that a while ago. You would have to use the ball from an overcooked, hard-boiled egg to get the mouse rolling again. Or at least it felt like it…

It looks like a device to connect to a TV, but this already sounds bothersome and worrying. Not everyone needed one, but if you did, they weren’t that fun to operate.

Dial-Up Was The Worst

Since the internet was so young when dial-up came out, you didn’t know to expect after that sound ended. Once you discovered what was on the World Wide Web, your patience for this dial-up sound wore thin.

Honestly, I’d pay to have this time capsule. These are four great soundtracks with lots of variety. You have your inspirational music with Space Jam, good vibes with All That, and even some No Doubt.

Thank goodness for streaming! Who wanted to carry around all these DVDs for any longer? Even if you weren’t taking them with you, they’d still take up plenty of space.

The crazy thing about this photo is that our smartphones can do whatever these ancient products tried. Take pictures, play music, and make phone calls. That’s all you really need.

If you had a good conversation on one of these phones, there was no way you stayed in one room. Trying to reach it somewhere came with the territory of owning it.

Waiting For That One Song

When you owned an iPod Shuffle, you had to wait for the song you wanted, instead of selecting it at will. Unless you made the ultimate playlist, that’s no fun.

How much did you have to text on these silly phones before it would show you this message? What were you doing sending that many texts in the first place?

This is a real throwback right here. The cable box that had the channels listed with their emblem at the top is timeless. I’m glad this person kept it and shared it.

If you played Grand Theft Auto, it was only right to have the cheat codes ready. You didn’t want to go into a fight without the weapons cheat activated for you.

This photo couldn’t get any more retro. Saturday Night Fever, Midnight Express, and so much more for this owner to enjoy. Now, they’re all probably on Hulu or Netflix, so this person should try to sell these.

Imagine your homework assignment taking this long to download. Sure, it didn’t really take that long, but it for sure took loads of hours. The continuous evolution of technology is a cool thing.

What if Netflix continued to do their movies this way? Would places like Blockbuster still be around? Would the postal service be in better shape? Would Stranger Things still have been made? It’s fun to think about.

Another Nintendo Classic

The Nintendo Game Boy Advanced was revolutionary for handheld gaming because it came with a backlight that the previous version didn’t have. Playing Pokémon in the middle of the night was never the same.

AIM and Myspace were arguably the greatest social forums to use before Facebook arrived on the scene. Logging on and seeing all those notifications filled you with joy. These were much simpler times.

Whenever the teacher brought out this TV, you knew it was time for a movie. If not a movie, at least you don’t have to do classwork for some time.

Snakes on a phone sounds much more exciting than the game they gave you older phones. Okay, it was kind of addictive, which helped turn it into a classic game.

The Overhead Projector

The overhead projector was one of the primary ways to relay information to students in class. It used transparent sheets with the print on it as the light hit and projected what we wanted to see. A true classic device.
