Urban exploration is something that many of us do without evening know it. We like to learn more about the world around us and see the past in front of us, waiting to be understood. Sometimes it brings more questions than answers, and sometimes it teaches you things you didn’t know you wanted to learn!
Luckily for us, people who go on these adventures take photos to share with the rest of us who aren’t as lucky and don’t get to do as much exploring. Besides, let’s be honest, sometimes it can be a bit dangerous, so think before you go exploring!
That’s One Rusty Ship
This big abandoned ferry sits in a marina that’s nestled between two suburbs in Vancouver. The ship is called The Queen of Sidney. Apparently it was quite the impressive ride in the 1980s when it was used.
It’s Like It’s From A Fairy Tale
This beautiful building is the Abbott Church in Lindon, Colorado, which is just outside of Denver. It was built in 1913 and has stood in that field ever since as a spot for the people in the community to gather, which is still the case is even though it’s abandoned.
That’s A Huge Complex
This impressive structure is a stormwater system in Tokyo. Is anyone else surprised at how clean it looks? When I think stormwater, I automatically think of, like, a sewer system. In the section where these people are, there were a lot of walkways and stairs so they weren’t anywhere super unsafe.
It Looks Like Nothing Has Changed
This is the lobby of an abandoned hotel off Route 66. It’s incredible that no vandals or anything have come along and destroyed this. It otherwise looks like it hasn’t been touched since it was left.
This Looks Like Something From A Video Game
This abandoned mining town is in Gilman, Colorado, which was originally established in 1886 during the Colorado Silver Boom. The town was abandoned in 1984 by the direct order of the Environmental Protection Agency because of toxic pollutants and contamination of groundwater. You can still see it from the highway when you’re driving through the area.
What A Place To Leave A Train
This train rests in San Diego on the Goat Canyon Trestle hiking trail. Close by, there is also an old railway bridge. It’s thought that the train was left there and before it could be brought back, the bridge was said to be unsafe for any kind of travel.
Would You Try That Waterslide?
This incredible scene is from an abandoned water park in Vietnam. Since this picture was taken, the area has been completely closed down. Likely because it was a place people are bound to get injured if they aren’t careful.
What A Sight To See
This is what’s left of Presidents Park which was located in Williamsburg, Virginia. As you can probably guess, the park was full of bust statues of former presidents for people to stop and take their pictures with. The park has closed and the statues were moved out into a field. Fun fact, those busts are actually 18 feet tall!
Looks Like Some Great Gatsby Right Here
This massive party place has been abandoned since 2014, when the area became uninhabitable due to a landslide, but the mansion had been empty before that. This giant house in Maryland is rumored to have belonged to the official White House Interior Decorator who served three presidents.
There’s Nothing Creepy About That
What would an urban exploration list be without pictures from the Chernobyl exclusion zone? These people took these pictures while they were on a private tour of the area but didn’t get to explore much further because the area is still very dangerous.
I Hope They Aren’t Afraid Of Heights
This abandoned Six Flags Amusement Park was called Jazzland when it first opened in 2000. It closed in 2005 in preparation for Hurricane Katrina and just never reopened again after the storm.
It Almost Doesn’t Look Abandoned
If you couldn’t see the peeling paint near the ceiling, you almost wouldn’t know that this place is abandoned. This beautiful home in France is called Château Lumière and was built in 1903. It has become a heritage landmark and remains surprisingly well-preserved.
There Is Something Spooky About This
This may look like something straight out of old Las Vegas, but it’s actually in Belgium. It’s a car dealership that was used for storage after the dealership closed down. The casino eventually closed as well.
Now There Is Something You Don’t See Every Day
The people who took this photo are nuts, there is no getting around that. This photo was taken at an abandoned spaceport, Baikonur. These people found not one, but two Buran space shuttles in an otherwise empty hanger.
Nothing Like A Good Old Spooky Church
This beautiful old church was built sometime in the 1800s. It’s incredible that the structure has stayed standing this whole time and in such good condition. The person who posted this said there wasn’t even that much vandalism.
Does This Look Familiar To Anyone?
This beautiful industrial landscape was used in the filming of one of the Blade Runner movies. It’s an old abandoned plant in Hungary that’s just sitting there when it isn’t being used in movies.
That’s A Lot Of Ice Skates
This is part of what used to be the Nevele Grand Hotel in Washington. What happens when you abandon a ski club? I guess if there isn’t a place to send all the equipment, then you would probably just leave it there.
Those Are Some Old Cars
This is part of an old parking garage in South Bend, Indiana. The old building is slowly being turned into office spaces. Interesting that they leave all the old stuff from the factory until they renovate the floor.
Is That Just A Hole In The Ground?
This small hole is actually a foxhole that was blasted into the bedrock in this forested area of Northern Sweden. It was once part of a large system of bunkers and tunnels that connected to one another, but they’ve since caved in.
That’s A Lot Of Buttons
In case you’ve ever wondered what the controls of a phosphate mine plant looked like. All that leftover paper and bottles. It’s wild that people just up and left that building and just never came back.
