While some cast members admitted hating the water (including Pamela Anderson), two of the show’s lifeguards were certified in the profession. Newman and Barnett started the show as technical advisers and occasional stuntmen but were cast by co-creator and competitive swimmer Greg Bonann in recurring roles in the show’s second year.
