John Lennon
Died at 40 (December 8, 1980)

Here he is signing an autograph for Mark David Chapman, who murdered him several hours later.
The following day, Lennon’s widow Yoko Ono issued this statement: “There is no funeral for John. John loved and prayed for the human race. Please do the same for him. Love, Yoko and Sean.”
There is a 2.5-acre section of New York City’s Central Park that is dedicated to the memory of former Lennon. Named after the Beatles’ song “Strawberry Fields Forever,” the site is a mecca for fans.
