Mark Twain
Died at 75 (April 21, 1910)

The humorist and author of “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer” and “The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn,” died of a heart attack the same month this photo was taken.
Born Samuel Clemens, he worked a number of odd jobs, including piloting a steamboat, before he began a successful writing career. Humorist Twain was famous for this line, after rumors of his demise began circulating: “The reports of my death have been greatly exaggerated.”
