The 35th President of the United States was riding in a 1961 Lincoln Continental four-door convertible on a parade through Dallas, Texas, when a gunman shot him once in the throat, once in the upper back and once in the head. This photo was taken moments before the first shot rang out.
He was beyond saving. Infamous footage of the assassination shows a shell-shocked Mrs. Kennedy scrambling to collect pieces of the President’s skull from the back of the car.
