This Boogeyman Was Real
Andre Rand, who was born as Frank Rushan, is the man responsible for the Cropsey kidnappings. In the ’60s Rand worked as a custodian at the Willowbrook State School, a hospital that was located on Staten Island and surrounded by a forest called the Greenbelt. Prior to his conviction for kidnapping and murder, Rand served ten months in jail for taking a group of children to the airport without their parent’s consent.
Throughout the ’70s and ’80s a number of people—primarily young girls—were reported missing. Rand was charged with the kidnapping and murder of a girl with Down Syndrome and it was believed that he was responsible for previous kidnappings as well.
