There Are a Lot of Things You Can Traffic
While we can’t say that the vampire aspect of this tall tale in necessarily true, there were arrests made in Peru of gang members who were trafficking human fat. The crime is said to have been inspired by the Pishtaco legend.
The Peruvian gang members killed many people and drained the bodies of their fat in order to sell it to other countries to be used in cosmetic products. A gallon of the human fat allegedly was worth up to almost $50,000. Peruvian police determine that the fat was extracted from the thorax and thighs of the innocent victims.
