In 1981, 19-year-old Jean Hilliard was in rural Minnesota when she got in a car accident. It was December 20th and temperatures were already freezing. Following the accident, Hilliard walked to a nearby friend’s house for shelter, but the temperatures were already below freezing.

She allegedly collapsed outside her friend’s door and was frozen solid. She was found the next morning and was taken to the hospital. Hilliard was so frozen that doctors couldn’t even penetrate her skin with a hypodermic needle and her body temperature couldn’t even register on a thermometer. Her heart rate slowed to 12 beats per minute and she was only slightly breathing. After 49 days, she luckily made a full recovery with no permanent damage.
